Welcome, fellow Flashpackers!
This blog intends to document, inform, suggest and inspire.
It’s aimed at 30-something travellers (although there’s no age limit either way!) who maintain the ethos of their penny-pinching backpacking twenties but, these days, have a little more cash to play with.
I started The Flashpacker because I think there’s a gap in the market for travellers like me. People who spent their 20s happily slumming it in crappy hostels, under questionable sheets, with doorless bathrooms and tummy-troubling meals . . . but secretly reckon they’ve earned the right to look beyond this.
Whether it’s a 2-week holiday or 6-month career break, the same attitude applies. We work hard all year, we have decent savings (or as decent as they can be in these tricky financial times . . .), we’re responsible adults, and we can afford to splurge a little. Although by “splurge” I don’t mean a $200 hotel room; I’m talking $20, up from the $2 of a few years previously!
I’m not a luxury traveller, but I’m no longer a student on a shoestring budget. I’m somewhere in the middle.
I’m the Flashpacker!
